Rose's Fan Fiction draft plan

Hey guys, this is just a brief brainstorm towards my draft, hope you get the gist of things to come.

So I’m set with what I’ll be writing about. I've decided to base my fan fiction on the movie Oldboy (2003), the Korean version that is, not the Hollywood remake due later this year by Spike Lee. The exact reason why I've chosen this thriller is because, I’m an avid fan of Asian movies, Korean thrillers in particular. Oldboy is a cult movie, and isn't like your typical Hollywood thriller, most of us are used to.

Background: It’s based on a 90’s Japanese Manga series. The movie is the second installment of, The Vengeance Trilogy, directed by Park Chan Wook. They all share the same themes but are narratively different, so you don’t need to watch the first one to get this.

Without giving anything away a brief outline of the movie goes… It’s based on Oh Dae Su (the protagonist), who is kidnapped and imprisoned on the day of his daughter’s birthday, and kept in a confined hotel-like room for 15 years. Within the year horrific events unfold and his life deteriorates before him. He spends the years imprisoned planning his revenge. To his surprise he is suddenly released without explanation, but his freedom comes with a catch. Why he’s released remains a mystery throughout the film, as he goes in search for answers. Supporting characters; Lee Woo Jin- Man behind his imprisonment. Mido- Daesu’s love interest/helper.

Now the themes covered in the film include, revenge, taboo, sadistic scenes, brutal violence and salvation.  For those of you who are squirmish, some scenes in the movie might be hard to watch.
My FF would be considered to be a Adultfic,  due to the overly violent nature of the scenes and the character's, depicted in my FF.
Structure of my FF could be an introduction to a violent scene covered in the film…

Point of view; I could cover the leading character, Oh Daesu and base it from his perspective on events leading to a particular scene. Still pondering on which one to choose and at what point of the narrative/movie. I’m considering taking ... approach with my writing.

I've come across with a cross-over character which I’ll be including into my FF. Lisbeth Salander from the Millennium Series. Those of you who are unfamiliar with the books would know her from, the Girl with theDragon Tattoo, now I’ll be referring to the Swedish films in my FF, not the American remake.

I've chosen these characters because they both share similar anti-social characteristics and they've endured horrific pasts. So in my FF, Lisbeth will help Daesu rather than Mido (his love interest in movie), and they could both share the same rival/villain, Lee Woo Jin.
Here are some links for my FF I’ve recovered so far…

DRAFT
Here are some points I didn’t manage to cover last time…

Characters in FF: Daesu (Protagonist), Lisbeth (Supporting Character), Woojin (Antagonist), Blomkvist (Asistant)

POV: First person or Third person-During the main plot with Daesu and sub plot with Lisbith.

Genre in FF: Thriller, Adultfic – may have scenes of violence.

Scene: This FF will be focused towards the end of the movie, where Daesu finds out why he was imprisoned and finally visits Woojin in his penthouse. In my FF Daesu will be accompanied by Lisbeth.  Daesu and Lisbeth uncover the truth about Woojin…They both find what they’ve been looking for, but a turn of events lead them to something even more twisted.
Setting: At night, in Seoul City, on the top floor of a Penthouse. I don’t think I can get more specific than that haha

Plot in FF: So the structure of the main plot covered in my FF, will start with Daesu arriving at the penthouse with Lisbeth. He’s just found out why he was imprisoned; for talking too much, but he wants to know what happened to his family. (Here an introduction to his past is narrated.) Lisbeth on the other hand has uncovered an undercover human trafficking ring, involving Woojin and prostitutes. Dead tortured bodies, of missing prostitutes, have been showing up around the city. (An introduction to Lisbeth and how she met Daesu.) Then comes the torture, Daesu wants answers on his family, Lisbeth wants to know where the remaining missing girls are.
Intro to sub plot. In the midst of torturing, Lisbeth gets a phone call from Blomkvist.  He’s uncovered info on Daesu’s family and past. His daughter is involved in prostitution, and hasn’t been seen for weeks. Lisbeth puts two and two together.
Back to the main plot. Lisbeth asks Woojin, what happened to his daughter. Daesu becomes enraged, about the news of his missing daughter. He realises this is all a part of Woojin’s revenge. He is just about to kill Woojin, who finds their presence amusing, when a screen comes on. They see an underground dungeon with what appears to be a group of girls tied to surgical tables. The torture starts. The volume comes on and they hear them screaming....WTF

The reader is left in SUSPENSE!! Sorry guys there’s no ending, whatever happens from here on out is entirely based on questions by the viewer. Will his daughter be down there? Is she the one being tortured? What kind of sick people do this? Why would they do this? Do they go into the dungeon? Does Daesu finish off Woojin? Does Lisbeth call the police?...

Hopefully I’ve explained enough for you to understand and follow through.

Feel free to give any suggestions, thoughts or feedback. They are more then welcomed.

  2. Hey Rhona,
Thanks for the encouragement, it's actually a thriller, so I hope you don't mind reading a lot on gruesome violence. That's gonna set the pace on my fan fiction really. The scene I'll be covering in particular would involve torture and violence, so this isn't for the faint hearted. The plot has a twist though, so it won't focus too much on the violence. Feel free to drop any suggestions.

    Cheers, Rose.

  3. Hey Rose!
I've never heard of the film, but I have seen the "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo"(the Swedish version) and I love Lisbeth and from your plan it seems that she would be the perfect character to have in your fanfiction. Although she is quite an antisocial character I look forward to seeing how the two interact with each other :)

    1. Thanks Rosalie,
Actually, I added the Lisbeth character so that there's some familiarity with the FF, I guess most people have heard or seen the movie 'Girl with the Dragon Tattoo'. It also allows for more options with my writing approach POV, style&genre, context, and characterization- especially with the 2 main characters and their personalities :)
